Tension Corporation, a multi-plant nationwide envelope manufacturer, has announced that it has made a commitment with Community Energy, Inc. (CEI) to purchase wind generated Renewable Energy Certificates to apply to Tension customer manufacturing orders.

Tension’s commitment will allow 1,000,000 kWh of renewable wind energy to enter into the national electricity grid and displace the need for other sources of power generation. This purchase makes a difference for the environment, improving our nation’s energy sustainability and independence.

The estimated environmental benefit is equivalent to planting nearly 540 acres of trees. Tension customers that request and use wind energy credits will be able to display an exclusive Wind Power emblem on their envelopes as a demonstration of their own concern and commitment to environmentally sound business practices.

In 2010, wind power accounted for nearly 2.5% of the electricity generated in the U.S, with no fuel expended and near-zero emissions. Wind projects continue to be a significant percentage of all new power-generation capacity being added.
